First guest lecture with Bruno Ceschel, who had just arrived from some conference in New York. He has a huge experience of working in various creative teams:
While making Self Publish Be Happy Magazine, they’ve got an idea not to ask people to make smth, but to send them smth that already made. The result: they’ve got about 4000 photos from people.
Speaking about me, I really enjoyed the photos from Motherland Book – the photos of deep parts of Russia.
Agreed to meet at Central Saint Martins. I’ve took bus 45 towards Kings Cross. For the first time it was difficult to find the entrance because the area was surrounded with temporary fence.
We produced a draft of our 10-point manifesto.
The inspiration for Philanthropy was straight on the wall: “Thus humanity and all of life as we know it will very much end the same way as it started… with a BANG!”
On the first lecture Vishua asked if somebody listens for BBC Radio 4, I was the only one who listens. I am listening for BBC Radio 4 mainly to get better understanding of spoken english and to grab proper pronunciation.
I am from Russia and never seen a university’s computer room full of Macs. Moreover, here, in LCC, I didn’t even seen a student with a laptop different from macbook.
Just one-hour induction and all of us got the task – to make a blog. So, everything after this post is real-time!..
13.30, one fifth (or one forth) of all Advertising Yr 1 students, our subgroup. I’ve sat down in one of the front desks, and didn’t know that just at this moment I have chosen my destiny – my future team for an advertising agency. We, 5 people from our row formed a team.
The thing is, that we see each other for the first time, but we already need to act right now. Every member of our team created a list of his/her interests and, after that, we combined them together to find something in common.
And we found: Books, jazz, IT, business start-ups, photography, street art, art itself… That was cool – we found so many common points!
Lucia, Simone, Kraig, Laurence and I. We even created a name - Philanthropy. Brainstorm began with plenty of names… I remember YOLO – You only live once.
Got a first task – to create a 10-point manifesto for next Monday.
9.30 am, room M401, 4th floor, first day in LCC. I’ve came at about 9.25, but everything was in progress. I came in, saw Jo, asked if this M401, she said: “Yes, welcome! ))”
About 120 people were divided on four or five groups. I’ve entered Jo’s group. Incredible!
Later, this evening Southbank excursion took place.

After my enrollment session, I’ve got a paper with information about events for LCC freshers. So, one of the events was college excursion starting at 11 am in the Upper Street area.
That was wonderful! I prepared myself from the evening, looked for Upper Street on Google maps, found one in Islington near Angel tube station. I arrived at 10.45. I walked for 30 minutes through the street, guessing where could we meet and found no answer.
Later, I found out that LCC has its own Upper Street…
