DAZ Creative Review

It’s good that we can get different opinions from different tutors. I never knew what the creative review is, does it actually happen or not (’cause not everything that appears on the timetable is for our subgroup). So, people told that nothing happens actually, i never went.

So, for this day we had an announcement from Grant, that review will take place, so we came and were happy to discuss our ideas with tutors.

On the edge of Grant’s and Jo’s acceptance new brilliant idea is getting born.

Visiting City hall

Today, we have visited CIty Hall. Speaking about me, it was the first time I came inside. What was nice, that when we came in, one lady invited us to take part in public listening of General London Assembly meeting.

Making photos inside was prohibited, here are ones from outside…

Philanthropy turns into Honey Badger

Today was the day when we changed our name to Honey Badger. Honey Badgers are very intellectual animals – they are from a minority, who is able to use tools. They are famous for attacking animals that are several times bigger and stronger, in case they don’t have a chance to escape.

Honey badgers don’t care, they never go back.

The power of manifestos

Really enjoyed the Leo Tolstoy’s 10-point manifesto, which he wrote at the age of 18.

  1. Get up early (five o’clock).
  2. Go to bed early (nine to ten o’clock).
  3. Eat little and avoid sweets.
  4. Try to do everything by yourself.
  5. Have a goal for your whole life, a goal for one section of your life, a goal for a shorter period and a goal for the year; a goal for every month, a goal for every week, a goal for every day, a goal for every hour and for every minute, and sacrifice the lesser goal to the greater.
  6. Keep away from women.
  7. Kill desire by work.
  8. Be good, but try to let no one know it.
  9. Always live less expensively than you might.
  10. Change nothing in your style of living even if you become ten times richer.

Also, discussed difference between Blur and Oasis – first is more pop than rock, and they are from London, second – are rock and from Manchester.

Walter Benjamin and others

Vishua’s task for today was to read Walter Benjamin’s “The work of art in the age of mechanical reproduction“, R. Bathles’s “Mythology today” and “I think critically, therefore I am” from Times Higher Education Magazine.

From this list, I clearly understood only the last one. However, the subject of Benjamin’s article is very interesting for my, I understood nothing from there.

And it doesn’t matter, are this articles on English, Spanish or German. I remember articles written in identical-style-language in Russian – authored by Nietzsche, Kant, Schopenhauer, Frege and other philosophers or, for example, Manly Palmer Hall’s book “An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy” - I experienced the same while reading – the subject is really interesting, but you can understand nothing.

Task to visit City Hall

Peter divided our class to groups, we formed the group of five: two Natashas, Leanne, Raimond and I. We’ve got the task to visit and to describe London’s City Hall – the meeting place of General London Authority, consisting of the London Assembly and the Mayor of London.

So, the next week’s Tuesday morning class should be spent on venue.

Are you a believer?

Grant’s first lecture for our sub-group. Several thoughts from it:

  • Brands only exist in the minds of those who believe.
  • Tell me, and I’ll forget; Show me, and I may remember; Involve me and I’ll understand – Chinese proverb
  • Apple doesn’t sell computers, – they sell belief.
  • Unique selling proposition is now Unique emotional proposition
  • If you are not busy born, – you are busy dying
  • Those who stand for nothing, fall anyway
  • I have a dream – Dr. Martin Luther King

Questions to ask yourself (and your agency):

  • Who are we?
  • What are we?
  • Why are we?
  • Where are we?
  • Our reason to be here?

Many companies before Apple asked themselves only two types of questions:

  • What consumers buy?
  • How do they buy it?

Apple were the first, who asked: Why do they buy? … and this was breakthrough!

Photo-session for manifesto

There, at Saint Martins we thought that if we are Philanthropy, we need to conduct our business in low-energy-consumption way, so we thought that we could meet our customers in cafes or coffee-shops. The result, is our idea with faces looking out from cups.

This shooting-session’s core aim is to prepare photos for future-processing ‘em in photoshop.
